The Federal Government has warned all federal civil servants on Salary Grade Level 12 and above, as well as those on essential services, to be at work from Monday despite the industrial action declared by labour unions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some civil servants were earlier advised to work from home. Labour unions have expressed their readiness to begin nationwide industrial action and protest from Monday over the recent hike in fuel price and electricity tariff. But the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, in a circular dated September 25, 2020, asked those civil servants still working to shun the industrial action. The circular which was addressed to all ministers, permanent secretaries, as well as heads of government’s agencies and parastatals, was titled “The Nigerian labour unions planned industrial action”. The death toll from a jihadist attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has risen to 30, security sources said Saturday. Two sources told AFP fatalities from the attack Friday in restive Borno state had doubled as more bodies were found and now included 12 policemen, five soldiers, four members of a government-backed militia and nine civilians. “The tally has increased to 30 as many bodies were picked in the surrounding areas after the attack,” one of the sources said, adding that “many people were injured”. Sources had earlier told AFP that a convoy transporting Governor Zulum came under attack from insurgents on Friday near the town of Baga on the shores of Lake Chad. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mai Mala Buni and Governor Abdallah Ganduje of Kano State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Governor Ganduje was Chairman of the APC Campaign Committee for the just concluded Edo governorship election which was won by the incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP against Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the party’s standard bearer. EDO ELECTION - PASTOR IZE-IYAMU DEFEAT OBASEKI AS HE START WINNING POLLING VOTES

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed Nigerians with accounts in any financial institutions to obtain, complete and submit Self – Certification Forms to their respective financial institutions. The financial institutions comprise of banks, insurance companies and others. The forms, according to a tweet thread from the verified account of the Government of Nigeria explained that the forms are required by the relevant financial institutions to carry out due diligence procedures in line with the Income Tax Regulations 2019. TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN OYO STATE TO RESUME ON THE 28TH OF SEPTEMBER

Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde has approved the reopening of all tertiary institutions in the state for regular academic activities from September 28. State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye conveyed this approval in a statement issued on Tuesday. The statement, however, tasked academic boards and Senate of the institutions to fix their specific resumption date from September 28 onwards and put in place COVID-19 guidelines for safe reopening. Meanwhile, primary and secondary students are to resume classes on September 21, adhering to morning and afternoon shifts format. A 26 years old teacher, Mathew Adebayo, was Friday, arrested for defiling a 15 years old Senior Secondary Student (SSS) 3 student in Sango, Ogun State. 1,052 OYO INDIGENES HAVE BEEN RESCUED FROM HUMAN TRAFFICKING

  Mrs Dame Okah-Donli, Director General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), says 1,052 indigenes of Oyo State have been rescued from human trafficking by the agency. Okah-Donli said this during an advocacy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, in his Palace on Wednesday in Ibadan. The DG said that Oyo Sate was beginning to develop notoriety for trafficking of adults and children to quarries and plantations, domestic servitude and sexual exploitation in brothels. “From 2004 to July 2020, a total of 1,052 indigenes of Oyo State have been rescued by the NAPTIP, consisting of 782 females and 270 males. “Those rescued are mostly from Oyo town, Saki, Kishi, Iseyin and Ibadan. “These victims were subjected to child labour, domestic servitude and sexual exploitation,” she said.
